Pack 95 Flag Retirement Ceremony
Every June, Pack 95 has a year end picnic, family camp out and advancement ceremony. Traditionally, we have ended the evening with a retirement and disposal of the American Flag. A boy from each rank was called upon to help. A final Pledge of Allegiance was said and the flag was cut into pieces symbolizing that the flag is no longer a flag – the blue field of stars is left intact because no one should ever let the union of our states be broken. The flag was then placed on the fire and completely consumed. The scouts finished with “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
This ceremony is always very special and I am amazed at the reverence and respect from all who attend. We had over 100 people on the beach that night and there was complete silence during this part of the ceremony. A special thank you to our Cubmaster, Jeff Ransden, and all the parents who volunteered and helped make this night memorable for our families.
